Speed skater Nuis extends until 2018, Groenewegen reinforces cycling team

Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s speed skating team has presented itself officially to the media today. At the same time, coach Jac Orie’s team gave the starting signal for the 2015/2016 season. The  Dutch formation hopes to deliver top performances these upcoming months with names such as Sven Kramer, Hein Otterspeer, Jan Smeekens and Kjeld Nuis.

Next to this, coach Orie is looking forward to seeing the development of newcomers Patrick Roest and Sanneke Neeling, as well as the development of talents such as Gerben Jorritsma and Roxanne van Hemert.

“With Sven, we will do our utmost to obtain the all round titles. Next to this, he will focus on the 5 and 10 kilometers, and is keeping his eye on the 1500 meters,” Orie states, who believes that Kramer’s training partners Douwe de Vries and Wouter olde Heuvel will also compete for the medals. “I also have high expectations of my sprinters.”

With several charts, Orie showed the progression of his team. Tests demonstrate that the team has made an average progression of 3 to 5 percent on several levels (for example: the anaerobic threshold and aerobic capacity).  “We cannot predict how that will translate onto the ice, but we certainly have had a good summer,” he said.

Prolongation Nuis
Team LottoNL-Jumbo also announced that Kjeld Nuis will be a part of the team until after the Olympics in Pyeongchang (South Korea). The twofold silver medal winner on the 1000 meters has signed a contract of 3 years. “I’m very happy to be a part of the team for the next three years,” Nuis explained.  “The collaboration with Jac is great and I’m convinced  I can compete for the podium the upcoming years.”

Groenewegen reinforces cycling team
The combined speed skating and cycling team also presented a reinforcement for the cycling division. Dylan Groenewegen will ride for Team LottoNL-Jumbo from 2016 onwards. The Dutchman  has signed a three-year contract and will strengthen the Dutch World Tour team’s sprint division.

“To sign this contract, at the end of the season, is amazing,”  says the 22 year old sprinter, who will transfer from Team Roompot Oranje Peloton. “We’d been negotiating for some time. After my second victory this season, it all went very fast.” Groenewegen won the Arnhem-Veenendaal Classic, as well as the Brussels Cycling Classic, as a first-year pro this season.
