Team LottoNL-Jumbo combative in GP Jef Scherens

Team LottoNL-Jumbo were sedulous in the GP Jef Scherens Rondom Leuven. The Dutch WorldTour team attacked with Timo Roosen, Lars Boom and Victor Campenaerts, but the race ended in a sprint. Amund Grondahl Jansen became close to a top ten result.

Early in the stage, Team LottoNL-Jumbo’s riders showed themselves with Timo Roosen. He went in the counterattack, but he didn’t succeed. Later, Lars Boom and Victor Campenaerts attacked alternately. “But it was difficult to make a difference today”, sports director Frans Maassen said afterwards. “Three laps before the finish Lars and Victor were in a good leading group, but they were too far from the finish.”

Then, a strong Lars Boom was again in front twice. “Lars was very strong, but he didn’t get much space. Amund Grondahl Jansen tried to sprint for the victory. Initially, he was well positioned, but he lost some places shortly after.”

Frans Maassen had mixed feelings about the race. “Amund could have ended-up better in the final sprint. Furthermore, it’s a pity that our combativity hasn’t been rewarded. We rode very well, but it’s only the result that counts. Unfortunately, that wasn’t good enough.”
