No glory for Team LottoNL-Jumbo in hectic sprint California

The riders of Team LottoNL-Jumbo have crossed the finish line of the fifth stage of the Tour of California safely. In the flat stage to Elk Grove, Team LottoNL-Jumbo didn't manage to battle with the sprinters of whom Fernando Gaviria crossed the finish line first. The team’s leader Neilson Powless was our first rider at the twentieth place. Tomorrow’s stage is a hilly one. The finish is in Lake Tahoe.

"It was a pretty fast day, but easy in the bunch", Team LottoNL-Jumbo leader Neilson said. "The boys took care of me on the run into the finish, and we all stayed upright. I am really looking forward to tomorrow as it will be another fight for the overall classification."

Sports Director Merijn Zeeman was happy that his team finished the stage without major problems. “Today was a day with a lot of wind, but in the end the wind wasn’t really in favour of setting up echelons. Although it was very important to stay focused all day. Tom Leezer and Maarten Wynants helped Neilson and Antwan the whole day and we came through without any problems. The final was very hectic with a few crashes but none of us was involved. Tomorrow, we’ll go for it again with Neilson and Antwan.”
