The Tour of Britain has yet to begin for Team LottoNL-Jumbo after bunch sprint in stage one. Koen Bouwman led the team over the line to 22nd place in Newport.

Sports Director Jan Boven explained that it was a typical English stage.

“It went up and down all day with a short climb at the end. We wanted to be in front. Jos was riding in the front row on the final climb, but he couldn’t follow the four riders who escaped from the peloton. However, I noticed that our guys are in good shape.”

On Monday, the riders have to face multiple small climbs. “If you look at the climbing metres, the second stage is the hardest of the Tour of Britain, but it’s the peloton that determines if it’s going to be hard, of course", Boven said. "We want to ride attentive and go for a good result."
